Japanese / British Dark Pop, Metal band Re:O released new single: "Crimson Desire".

🎧 New Music Alert!

Japanese / British Dark Pop, Metal band Re:O released their fantastic new single "Crimson Desire".

Crimson Desire is the 9th single released by Re:O. and explores the realisation that what you have is not enough despite the fact that you sacrificed most of your life to get where you are. The more you gain the more it fuels an unending hunger to further advance  your goals and ambitions. This story is conveyed by utilising visceral imagery of vampirism.

Re:O takes a different stance in this track musically by focusing less on their signature blend of Japanese styled synths and focus more on raw, heavy guitar riffs that bring an eccentric and chaotic energy with synths supporting the guitar and bass to throw at you the aggression and frustration the lyrics are portraying.

This is contrasted by Rio Suyama’s following melodies that not only compliment the instrumentation but add a layer of calculated and calm emotions that anchor the lyrics to the music. This combination gives an overall feeling of frustration, want, aggression and a feeling that what Rio is singing is calculated and the story is not about an emotional outburst but a calm, though thorough process which describes her desire to climb to higher places in her music career.

Crimson Desire has shown Re:O’s continuation to dive deeper into the metal genre whilst staying true to their blend of J-pop and dark pop and continuing to blend Japanese styled music with Western modern metal and rock. The focus is shifted in this single from the synthonic, glitchy and chaotic synths to the raw, energetic and aggressive guitar and bass that encapsulate you in the dark, emotional and raw story of Crimson Desire.

🎧 New Music Alert!

Japanese metal band HANABIE. released a new song “Karu Garu Everyday!!” on July 18, 2025.

It’s the theme to the new anime series “Araiguma Calcal-dan” which is now airing in Japan. The band’s latest boasts HANABIE.’s signature hardcore sound featuring lead singer Yukina’s cute vocals with sharp shouts, creating a chaotic fusion.

“It made us all laugh with its perfect chaos and being packed with all kinds of emotions,” vocalist Yukina says of the song. “The TV anime has a fun and laid-back vibe, making the tie-in fit perfectly! I hope it becomes a motivational anthem for our fans, giving everyone the energy to tackle each day! Go, go!”

Formed in 2015, the four-piece band rooted in metal, hardcore and Japanese idol pop creates a flashy and frantic sound their fans dub “Harajuku-Core.” The band is currently playing at festivals all around the world, including the long-running Vans Warped Tour, and will embark on a headline tour of Europe this November.

“Karu Garu Everyday!!” is available on all major streaming platforms.

The band Commented on the Track:

Vocalist Yukina:

“Listening to the track post-recording, I found the song to be a blend of cuteness, emotional vibes, and surrealness… it made us all laugh with its perfect chaos and being packed with all kinds of emotions! The TV anime has a fun and laid-back vibe, making the tie-in fit perfectly! I hope it becomes a motivational anthem for our fans, giving everyone the energy to tackle each day! Go, go!”

Guitar and vocalist Matsuri:

“We wrote this track specially for the TV anime "Araiguma Calcal-dan"! It was my first time creating a full-length track starting from a 29-second version, but I am really happy about how it turned out. The track blends HANABIE.’s signature quirky style with the show’s poppy and adorable vibes! I hope this track becomes a source of support for everyone’s daily lives!”

Bassist Hettsu:

“We created a highly catchy and addictive song that’s easy to get stuck in your head and will keep on looping! The “Fure Fure (Go Go)” chant at the beginning is sure to get you hooked! When we extended the track from the 29-second anime version to the full-length release, we added the final chorus. This addition turned out to become really grand together with the bass! Please check it out ♪”

Drummer Chika:

“As the theme song for the TV anime "Araiguma Calcal-dan", I aimed to capture the unique, laid-back, and comedic gang of characters who have world domination as their goal. With the drums, I tried to incorporate cute and slightly pop elements with a cool grandiosity! The point I focused on the most is the final section where I play the snare drum with a reverb-like effect!”

Japanese artist NANO has released her long-awaited new EP aИomaly

Japanese Artist NANO Releases New EP On July 2nd!

Following last month’s announcement of her first-ever European tour, Japanese artist NANO has released her long-awaited new EP aИomaly, available on all major streaming platforms. The title aИomaly is inspired by the phrase: “My reality is the anomaly.” Comprising six tracks that reflect the current state of who NANO is, the EP explores raw, emotional terrain.

The lead track “ENDGAME” was composed by Yosh from The Hideout Studios and Show from Survive Said The Prophet — two artists NANO has connected with through international events. Fueled by gritty guitar riffs, sharp beats, and NANO’s powerful vocals, “ENDGAME” embodies the spirit of aИomaly, a declaration of embracing the unconventional.

The EP is available both digitally and in physical format. The physical version is exclusively available through NANO’s official store and at her live shows.

NANO shared the following comment on the release:

I randomly came across the word "Anomaly" rather recently, and liked the sound of it, which led me to look it up. And upon learning that it meant "Out of the ordinary", "unexpected", I felt an odd connection to the word. I have always had similar feelings and emotions about many things in my life - my mentality, my human relationships with people, my physical struggles, and even my music. But these "anomalies" are also a reason I keep trying to better myself in these aspects, and so in a sense, it serves as an important motivation.

I hope that these raw emotions reach you through this album.

I look forward to having more new songs to reach people around the world, and hopefully someday in the near future, I will be able to sing them live for you.

Until then, Rock on.

LIVE INFORMATION: First-ever European Tour: “DO OR DIE!! Rock Your Heart Out in EUROPE”.

NANO, originally from New York, USA, is a bilingual rock artist known for her powerful vocals and ability to seamlessly switch between English and Japanese. Her YouTube content has amassed over 200 million views, and her 2020 livestream concert was viewed in 23 countries worldwide.

NANO has performed numerous anime theme songs and is currently streamed by users in over 150 countries on Spotify. With appearances at 47 international events across 13 countries, she also held her first North America tour in January 2025.

NANO continues to break borders with her voice—resonating with fans around the globe. Her voice knows no boundaries.

Japanese Harajuku-core metal band HANABIE new single: "Spicy Queen"

🎧 New Music & Video Alert!

Harajuku-core trailblazers HANABIE. are bringing the heat on their new single "Spicy Queen" and the official music video (via Sony Music Japan). Taking inspiration from experiences on their recent US co-headlining tour with Kim Dracula, today's release is in celebration of the band's 10-year anniversary and is a counterpart to the fan-favorite track "We love sweets".

When asked about "Spicy Queen", vocalist Yukina commented:

"The song 'WE LOVE SWEETS,' which we released in 2021, has become a gateway track for listeners to discover our music. It’s a very meaningful track for us. As time has passed and we have matured, we thought, “Let’s make a spicy version of the song!” during our tour. Inspired by the famous “Nashville Hot Chicken”, we decided to create this new rendition that features a spicy and stimulating musical progression. It also has an addictive quality that will make you want to ‘eat’ (listen to) the track on repeat!"

Guitarist and vocalist Matsuri said:

"This song was born during our U.S. tour from the sudden thought, "Let’s create a track that marks our 10th anniversary year.” It’s also the first track we crafted collaboratively as a band through constant discussions and was incredibly fun to make!! We included plenty of moments for our fans to shout along with us, designing the track with the vision that all the parts will come together during a live performance. So, we hope you listen to it a lot and come join us at our live shows!"

Bassist Hettsu also added:

"To celebrate our 10th anniversary year, we created this song that captures the essence of HANABIE.! It’s a track where everyone can shout together during the chorus and has parts that pay homage to our past songs. We feel it encapsulates the 10 years of HANABIE.! Listen to it a lot and let’s sing this track together at our live shows!"

HANABIE. drummer Chika shared:

"This song was created through discussions among us during our U.S. tour and marks the milestone for the band’s 10th anniversary year! My favorite drum phrase is in the second verse, where the rhythm alternates every measure between on-beat and off-beat! Aside from the drums, I also love Matsuri’s vocal slides at the beginning of the second verse! I hope everyone will shout along with us during the chorus when we perform at live shows."

Prior to today, the quartet released the official music video for "Tasty Survivor", the featured ending theme song for the anime series 'Momentarily Lily', available for streaming now on Crunchyroll, after releasing their latest EP 'Bucchigiri Tokyo'.

Japan, jmetal, V-Rock and Metal Japanese band: D’ESPAIRSRAY

D’ESPAIRSRAY Reunites After 14 Years to Shake the Stage at CROSS ROAD Fest 2025.

A pioneering force of global V-Rock and Metal scene returns with their first live performance since disbanding in 2011.

After more than a decade of silence, one of Japan’s most internationally influential V-Rock and Metal bands, D’ESPAIRSRAY, is making a triumphant return to the stage. The band will reunite for a performance on Day 1 of CROSS ROAD Fest , taking a place at Makuhari Messe Event Hall on November 15 and 16, 2025.

Formed in 1999, D’ESPAIRSRAY quickly rose to prominence with a unique blend of gothic rock, industrial metal, and Visual Kei aesthetics, earning acclaim both in Japan and abroad. The four members—HIZUMI (vocals), Karyu (guitar), ZERO (bass), and TSUKASA (drums)—were among the first Japanese rock acts to tour Europe extensively, launching their overseas debut in 2004, long before it became common for Japanese bands to play international stages.

In 2006, the band toured 14 cities across eight countries and made history as one of the first Japanese artists to perform at Germany’s Wacken Open Air, one of the world’s largest and most respected metal festivals.

The band disbanded in 2011 following HIZUMI’s vocal cord issues, leaving fans and peers deeply saddened. Since then, each member has remained active: HIZUMI with NUL., Karyu with Angelo and H.U.G, and ZERO and TSUKASA with THE MICRO HEAD 4N’S, while TSUKASA also enjoys success as a solo enka artist under the name Tsukasa Mogamigawa.

Their surprise guest appearance at THE INTERSECTION OF DOGMA in 2014 was the only glimpse fans had of a potential reunion—until now.

The announcement of their participation in CROSS ROAD Fest has sent ripples through the scene. Joining them on stage will be fellow icons such as La’cryma Christi, SHAZNA, Plastic Tree, FAIRY FORE, and Psycho le Cému, marking this as a landmark event symbolic of the global Visual Kei revival .

About the song Violets

Violets is the 8th single released by Re:O. Violets explores the depths of grief by combining Re:O’s signature blend of metal riffs with sombre and harrowing melodies that captivate grief and pain with mesmerizing vocals, haunting piano melodies and synthonic instrumentation. This will immediately draw in any fan of Alternative Metal, Industrial Metal, Metalcore, Goth, J-Pop, Dark Pop, Nu-Metal, Post Hardcore and Rock.

Violets describes the death of someone extremely close and important to you and how the grief has overwhelmed you with the loss of the one person who supported you, was there for you and who you loved dearly. The story continues by plunging into denial and how you refuse to accept this has happened and questioning how you can continue onwards.

Everything you knew has now been lost and now you must stumble and find your way in this new and hostile emotional landscape. This emotional journey is captivated by using the imagery of the flower Violets, utilising these as a metaphor for loss, fear and growth. The music tells this story by utilising beautiful and powerful vocal melodies contrasted by unsettling symphonic instrumentation, haunting piano melodies and intense guitar riffs to emulate the anger and denial portrayed by the lyrics. All of this contributes to Violets being the perfect tribute to the loss of that one loved and dearly missed person.

Written in loving memory of Joyce Rose Brooks 03/01/1931 - 15/01/2021 Grandmother of James Wright

DEVILOOF Releases Explosive New Music Video 'Inshu’  Featuring Shogun Star Tadanobu Asano  - A 10th Anniversary Milestone!

Japanese deathcore powerhouse DEVILOOF has unveiled its highly anticipated digital single and music video for "Inshu" today!

This release features acclaimed actor Tadanobu Asano, celebrated for his role in the drama Shogun, where he made history as the first Japanese actor to ever win the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in this year's award ceremony.

This collaboration came to fruition because Asano is a genuine fan of DEVILOOF. He has mentioned that listening to their music helped him enhance his focus during his filming sessions. This deep connection speaks volumes about the emotional resonance of DEVILOOF's music.

Vocalist Keisuke, who was deeply inspired by Asano's performance in Shogun , reached out for this collaboration, making it a significant moment that coincides with the band's 10th anniversary. With a terrifying blend of death metal and metalcore, DEVILOOF is known for its intense breakdowns, aggressive vocals and intricate guitar work that pushes the limits of the genre.

Japanese Harajuku-core HANABIE. "Tasty Survivor" ending theme song anime 'Momentarily Lily'

🎧 New Music Alert!

Harajuku-core trailblazers HANABIE. are kicking off 2025 deliciously with their new track "Tasty Survivor" (via Sony Music Japan).

The song is the featured ending theme song for the new anime series 'Momentarily Lily' streaming now on Crunchyroll, with an official music video coming soon.

In a press release speaking about the track, vocalist Yukina commented:

"This is our very first tie-in with an anime, and we wrote this track specifically for it! The song reflects the world and characters of Momentary Lily while also capturing the essence of our band life. From the intense “eat or be eaten” vibe of live band battles to the exhilarating build-up toward the chorus, it mirrors the way we warm up for a live show and the anticipation of listeners heading to the venue.

We hope this song becomes a source of energy for everyone living their lives to the fullest all over the world."

Guitarist and vocalist Matsuri shared:

"For our first-ever anime tie-in, we focused on blending the world of Momentary Lily with HANABIE.'s unique style. The result is a track that’s bold and straight-forward, yet carries a touch of fragility. The intensity of the intro, in particular, was inspired by the anime’s battle scenes, so we’d love it if you pay close attention to every detail. There were so many connections between HANABIE. and the characters of Momentary Lily, and we poured all those emotions into the lyrics. We hope you enjoy every aspect of the song, from the lyrics to the music, down to the smallest nuances!"

Bassist Hetsu added:

"This is HANABIE.’s long-awaited anime tie-in song!

We expressed the story of the girls in the anime in true HANABIE. style—it's pop, fast-paced, and features an incredibly catchy chorus that perfectly matches the battle scenes. We think it’s going to be addictively fun!

The bass line is also super catchy and intense, so make sure to pay attention to that as well.

We hope you’ll enjoy the song together with the anime! ♪"

HANABIE. drummer Chika also commented:

"This is our first-ever anime tie-in, and we had the honor of creating the opening theme for Momentary Lily. While keeping the anime in mind, we also made sure to stay true to HANABIE.'s signature style.

One of the key highlights in the drums is right before the first chorus—a section where the kick drum is hit eight times in a row. It’s a small but powerful detail, inspired by the dynamic and intense battle scenes, as if representing a flurry of attacks.

Just like the anime, this track is full of highs and lows, and we hope it gets your heart racing with excitement as you listen!"

Prior to "Tasty Survivor" , the quartet released their banger "Ito Okashi My Type" from their new EP 'Bucchigiri Tokyo' available now on all streaming platforms, and announced a massive North American co-headlining run with alternative artist Kim Dracula beginning in March 2025.

The band has also just announced their EU/UK Fall headlining tour beginning in late October.

Japan: DEVILOOF to release new single "Inshu" on January 29, 2025

🎧 New Music Alert!

DEVILOOF are set to release new digital single "Inshu (因習)" on January 29th, 2025! marking their first new creation in a year as they charge into their milestone 10th anniversary.

This eagerly awaited opus draws inspiration from the sinister "innate wickedness culture" found in traditional Japanese village horror tales.

The band has poured a year of effort into crafting this masterpiece, featuring the most technically challenging performances in their history.

In a new experimental approach, the band has incorporated female chorus to enhance the horror atmosphere. The haunting falsetto vocals, which will leave a lasting impression upon first listen, are performed by Sennzai, a singer renowned for her contributions to popular game music and as a vocal artist. Her own releases have surpassed 25 million streams.

The jacket artwork features Yukihisa Tamura, who received the Vanilla Award at the 3rd Vanilla Gallery Awards Exhibition.

Tamura is known for his expertise in gory expression. This award, organized by Vanilla Gallery in Tokyo, Japan, recognizes unique and challenging works of art. The jacket, entirely hand-painted with acrylic paint, interprets the lyrics by Katsusuke and faithfully recreates gruesome and bloody depictions.

This artwork stands apart from digitally created works, showcasing Tamura's extraordinary artistic prowess.

In addition, a music video has been produced, and it is said to be the most extreme feature celebrating DEVILOOF's 10th anniversary activities, raising anticipation for their future developments.

SERENITY IN MURDER release single "God Forsaken" ahead of new album!

🎧 New Music & Video Alert!

SERENITY IN MURDER release single "God Forsaken" ahead of new album!

In a press release Serenity In Murder said the album "Timeless Reverie" to be released on 28th February, 2025!

Having carved their place in the melodic death metal scene for over a decade, Serenity In Murder continues to push boundaries with their latest masterpiece, Timeless Reverie. Following the acclaim of 2021’s Reborn, the Japanese band further refines their signature blend of raw aggression and symphonic beauty. The album navigates a dark and emotional landscape, taking listeners on a journey through themes of time, destiny, inner turmoil and personal revolution.

The narrative within Timeless Reverie is tied to existential questions and the search for meaning in an unforgiving world. The title itself, Timeless Reverie, suggests a meditation on moments that feel suspended in time, where the past, present, and future collide. The album explores the fragility of life, the complexities of human emotions and the eternal struggle between light and darkness.

Musically, the album seamlessly weaves complex melodies, atmospheric symphonic elements, and crushing heaviness. Opening with the ferocious God Forsaken, Timeless Reverie sets a strong tone that is sustained throughout the album, offering listeners both intense moments and melancholic, atmospheric passages that allow them to immerse themselves fully in the experience, absorbing every layer and feeling the music resonate deeply with every note.

HANABIE EP 'Bucchigiri Tokyo' and Music Video "Ito Okashi My Type"

🎧 New Music & Video Alert!

HANABIE. Release New EP 'Bucchigiri Tokyo' and New Music Video "Ito Okashi My Type" Out Now!

Wednesday, December 4, 2024 - Harajuku-core trailblazers HANABIE. have released their new EP 'Bucchigiri Tokyo' and the official music video for their latest track "Ito Okashi My Type".

When asked about the inspiration behind the EP, vocalist Yukina shared:

"The theme of this EP is "Tokyo" the birthplace of our music. Each track is pure chaos and pop, bursting with everything that makes HANABIE. unique! It’s a work that delivers total satisfaction—like a full-course meal for your ears. We love the word "Bucchigiri" for its strong sound and energy. With this EP, we want to go bucchigiri from Tokyo to the world!"

HANABIE. vocalist and guitarist Matsuri commented:

"This album was created with great care, cherishing both the raw passion of our early days and how we've evolved to where we are now! With all the activities in Japan and the many overseas tours we embarked on, 2024 has been an incredible year, and I believe this EP is the culmination of it all. Centered around the theme of "Tokyo" it’s filled with love, so I hope you'll listen to it over and over again!"

Bassist Hettsu also shared:

"Over the past year, traveling around the world has made me appreciate Tokyo even more! This EP was created through those emotions and each track feels like its own protagonist, packed with songs that are truly worth listening to. Let’s listen to this EP and charge full throttle in life!"

Drummer Chika stated:

"I've been with HANABIE. as their drummer, Chika, for about a year and a half now also since moving to Tokyo finally gotten used to life here. So now what I believe is perfect timing, I arranged all the drum parts for the tracks on this EP! It's a collection of six incredibly diverse songs, so I hope you'll listen to the whole EP! By the way, don't you think "Bucchigiri" is such a fun word to say?"

The band has previously dropped "OTAKU Lovely Densetsu" and their most recent banger, "Metamorphose!", which together have amassed nearly 3 million views on YouTube and over 2.6 million streams on Spotify alone. Japanese metallers NEMOPHILA released their new music video for the song “Beautiful days”

🎧 New Music Alert!

Japanese metallers NEMOPHILA released their new music video for the song “Beautiful days”, on November 6th, 2024!

Although a fantastic metal ballad and just wonderful song, unfortunately, for those that purchased the CD version early, an issue was reported with the recording order! An apology for the defects in the recording was issued by the band, with an exchange programme in place with the corrected recording order on offer.

We saw something similar with the release of Hazuki new album “MAKE UP ØVERKILL”! Which makes us question what is currently happing with the usually impeccable Japanese standards?
